One of the most common joints to cause pain as
we age is the knee.
Wear and tear on this joint over time causes erosion
of cartilage and development spicules bone called
osteophytes. These osteophytes causes a sand paper
type substance in the joint that with movement
causes pain. Reestablishing a less abrasive contact
in this joint is often accomplished with the injection
of sodium hyaluronate. Typically the treatment
of sodium hyaluronate consists of three injections
over three weeks. This is treatment is reserved
for those patients that have failed conventional
pain medicines.
